About the Diocese of St Thomas in the Virgin IslandsThe Diocese of St. Thomas comprises the Territory of the United States Virgin Islands, specifically the islands of St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas, and Water Island. First erected as the Territorial Prelature of the Virgin Islands on July 23, 1960, it was established as the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands on April 20, 1977.
Our Diocese is within the Ecclesial Province of Washington, D.C., the only Suffragan diocese to the Archdiocese of Washington.
We have a diverse community of faithful with varied backgrounds, from the islanders to the Hispanics, the Haitians to the French Community. This is a reflection of our rich religious and cultural heritage, which further enriches our worship and the way we celebrate and live the faith.
Pastorally, the Diocese is divided into two deaneries, which all together have nine (9) Parishes. St Thomas Deanery consists of Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral; Holy Family Parish; Ste Anne’s Parish; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish; and Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish (in St John Island). St Croix Deanery comprises Holy Cross Parish; St Ann’s Parish; St Patrick’s Parish; and St Joseph's Parish.
Our Bishop is the Most Reverend Jerome Feudjio, the first African-born Bishop in the United States. His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him on March 2, 2021, and his episcopal ordination took place on April 17, 2021.

Our Cathedral: A Spiritual Beacon
Nestled in the heart of Charlotte Amalie, our Cathedral stands as a testament to our enduring faith. Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral is the heartbeat of our Diocese. This Church is more than just a structure that houses the faithful and the holy ceremonies; it is the people, the community, and the faith.
With a story that began in 1773, the Cathedral has undergone many transformations, partial and sometimes heart-wrenching destructions due to hurricanes, and resulting renovations. But it has always resurfaced, and now shines bright it its inviting magnificence. After year-long activities, the 250th Anniversary was celebrated in June of 2024.

Diocesan Coat of Arms
Discover the rich symbolism of the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands’ coat of arms, which beautifully reflects the region’s maritime heritage and spiritual roots. The blue field and silver wavy border symbolize the surrounding Caribbean Sea, while the thirteen silver stars highlight the Virgin Islands’ connection to the original thirteen U.S. colonies. The crossed gold keys and sword honor Saints Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the Cathedral.

Our Pastoral Leadership
Our current Bishop is His Excellency Jerome Feudjio. Together with the clergy and leadership in the Parishes, the offices of the chancery that run the day-to-day life of the diocese, committees and commissions, and the various institutions and structures, Bishop Jerome leads the work of Christ to govern, teach, and sanctify.
