Catholic Marriage Requirements: In accordance with Catholic Church doctrine and Canon Law, marriage in the Catholic Church is a sacred union between one adult man and one adult woman. This is a fundamental requirement for all Catholic marriages celebrated in the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.
Time Requirement: Wedding preparation must begin at least six (6) months before your intended wedding date.
Diocesan Requirements for Marriage
1. Initial Preparation
Begin the marriage preparation process at least six months before your wedding date.
2. Home Diocese Process
Complete the pre-marriage process required by your home Diocese:

3. Required Witness Forms
Submit Witness/Freedom to Marry forms:
Two separate witnesses are required for the bride
Two separate witnesses are required for the groom
4. Dispensations
Secure any required dispensations before sending documents (consult your priest for details)
5. Parish Documentation
Submit the following documents from your local parish:
Prenuptial Questionnaire
Baptism certificate (including complete mailing address of the Church where you were baptized)
Letter of recommendation from your local Pastor
Permission letter to marry outside your parish (if applicable)
6. Civil Requirements
Obtain a marriage license from the US Virgin Islands Superior Court.

Application Process
1. Personal Appearance: Both applicants must appear in person at the Family Division of the Superior Court
2. Previous Marriage Documentation
Previously married applicants must provide a certified copy of their Divorce Decree
Widowed applicants must provide a certified copy of their spouse's Death Certificate
3. Identification: Both applicants must present government-issued identification
4. Required Fees
$100.00 non-refundable application fee (due at filing)
$100.00 marriage license fee (due at pickup)
$150.00 additional surcharge for weekend/holiday service (if applicable)
Important Notice: There is an eight (8) day waiting period for posting marriage applications unless granted an exemption by the Court.
