The Diocese of St. Thomas comprises the Territory of the United States Virgin Islands, specifically St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas and Water Island. Firstly erected as the Territorial Prelature of the Virgin Islands on July 23, 1960, it was established as the Dioceses of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands on April 20, 1977. The Diocese of St. Thomas is within the Ecclesial Province of Washington, D.C.. The actual Bishop is the Most Reverend Jerome Feudjio, First African-born Bishop in the United States. He was appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis on March 2, 2021 and his episcopal ordination took place on April 17, 2021.
