Our Mission
The Office of the Chancellor serves as the chief administrative arm of the Diocese of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands. We are committed to supporting the Bishop in his pastoral and administrative duties, ensuring efficient operations, and maintaining the official records of the diocese.

Role of the Chancellor
The Chancellor, appointed by the Bishop, plays a vital role in the day-to-day administration of the diocese. Key responsibilities include:- Record Keeping: Maintaining and safeguarding all official diocesan records, including sacramental records, clergy assignments, and official correspondence.
- Legal Affairs: Serving as a notary for ecclesiastical documents and advising the Bishop on canon law matters.
- Administrative Support: Assisting the Bishop in the governance of the diocese, including the implementation of diocesan policies and procedures.
- Communication: Together with the Director of Communications, facilitating communication between the Bishop's office, diocesan departments, parishes, and external entities.
- Archival Management: Overseeing the diocesan archives, preserving the history and heritage of the Catholic Church in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Services ProvidedThe Office of the Chancellor offers various services to the clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the diocese:
- Sacramental Record Requests: Processing requests for sacramental certificates (baptism, confirmation, marriage).
- Clergy Documentation: Managing documentation related to clergy assignments, faculties, and credentials.
- Parish Support: Providing guidance to parishes on administrative matters and record-keeping practices.
- Historical Research: Assisting researchers and genealogists with accessing appropriate archival materials.
- Ecclesiastical Notarization: Notarizing official church documents as required by the Code of Canon Law.
