First Sunday of Advent
December 2, 2012

TODAY (Violet) Jer 33:14-16, 1Thes 3:12—4:2, Lk 21:25-28

NEXT WEEK (Violet) Bar 5:1-9, Phil 1:4-6, Lk 3:1-6

Signs of the end of the world are not disastrous cosmic events which we anticipate with dread, but the fullness of our own Gospel living. The signs we ordinarily think will accompany the end of the world—cosmos in disarray and nations in dismay—are really signs of how far we still have to go to implant Gospel values in our lives and world. Our care and love for others, our fruitful response to the challenge of Gospel living, are definitive signs of Christ’s presence among us. These are the signs of God’s kingdom coming to completion.
