Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
November 11, 2012

TODAY (Green) 1 Kgs 17:10-16, Heb 9:24-28, Mk 12:38-44

NEXT WEEK (Green) Dn 12:1-3, Heb 10:11-14, 18, Mk 13:24-32

This gospel contrasts the scribes’ insincere and self-serving behavior with the widow’s honest and self-giving action. Whereas we might discount the widow’s gift of a few cents. Jesus appraises her contribution as the greatest of all. It is not the size of the gift which measures its value but the depth of self-giving from which it comes. This is the kind of giving Jesus encourages us to embrace by his praise of the widow.
