November 10, 2013

TODAY (Green) 2 Mc 7:1-2, 9-14; 2 Thes 2:16—3:5; Lk 20:27-38

NEXT WEEK (Green) Mal 3:19-20a; 2 Thes 3:7-12 ; Lk 21:5-19

The Sadducees are fixated on dying: Jesus is focused on living. The Sadducees deny there is resurrection; Jesus proves there is by rising from the dead. The Sadducees are trapped by affairs of this life; Jesus abides with the angels and “the children of God… who will rise.” The Sadducees” idea of this life ends with death: there is nothing more. Jesus knows that this life continues with newness of life. And there is even more: we already participate in what the Sadducees deny. To God “all are alive” now.
