Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
November 4, 2012

TODAY (Green) Dt 6:2-6, Heb 7:23-28, Mk 12:28b-34

NEXT WEEK (Green) 1 Kgs 17:10-16, Heb 9:24-28, Mk 12:38-44

When the scribes asked Jesus which is the “first of all the commandments,” Jesus answers by giving him not one, but two: Love God and love neighbor. Jesus connects these two commandments: Loving God with all our being is one and the same as loving our neighbor, made possible only by self-giving. Such all-embracing love “is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices, “for when we love Jesus commands, we ourselves are the “burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
