Thirtieth Sunday In Ordinary Time

October 27, 2013

TODAY (Green) Sir 35:12-14, 16-18; 2 Tm 4:6-8, 16-18; Lk 18:9-14

NEXT WEEK (Green) Wis 11:22—12:2; 2 Thes 1:11—2:2; Lk 19:1-10

The Pharisee is faithful to pious practices, but he misses the heart of prayer: inward turning to God that carries outward to right relationship with others. The tax collector is justified because he admits that he has not been in right relationships (“me a sinner”) with others. True humility is honesty about who we are before God and others. True prayer leads to God exalting us (“went home justified”) because we have humbled our selves before the Most High and have exalted others through our just actions toward them.

CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP:
What are the rewards of Stewardship? We seek no “rewards” for our stewardship; we do it with the joy of serving God. Stewardship is the responsibility of the Christian life, making our prayers, worship, study of Scriptures, Christian action truly sincere. Our whole life is a partnership with God. We cannot “give” anything to God; but we can “fulfill” God by using our gifts wisely and sharing with others.
