Twenty-Ninth Sunday In Ordinary Time

October 20, 2013

102013gr

TODAY (Green) Ex 17:8-13; 2 Tm 3:14 — 4:4:2; Lk 18:1-8

NEXT WEEK (Green) Sir 35:12-14, 16-18; 2 Tm 4:6-8, 16-18; Lk 18:9-14

The widow’s persistence in petitioning the judge is directed toward changing his mind so that he will act and render a just decision. Our prayer is not a matter of changing God’s mind. However, Persistent prayer is about faithful relationship to God that expands us and our expectations of how God is to act. God always acts justly. The challenge of the gospel is to keep on praying to a God who wills only good for us. Sometimes this requires that we must change our minds. Liturgy

STEWARDSHIP… a way of life.
A brother once said. “I was afraid to start tithing, so I took a step in faith as my neighbor encouraged me to do. I’ve never regretted it. God has not let me down. He has richly blessed our family spiritually and materially. I’m teaching my children to tithe in a spirit of joy and gratitude.”
Tithing becomes easier if we set aside the Lord’s portion, and give it to him.

STAND FIRM: In time of desolation one should never make a change, but stand firm in the resolutions and decisions that guided one the day before the desolation. -St. Ignatius of Loyola

Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING, and become good STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall, as a reminder to support your church.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
