Twenty-Eighth Sunday In Ordinary Time

October 13, 2013

101313gr

TODAY (Green) 2 Kgs 5:14-17; 2 Tm 2:8-13; Lk 17:11-19

NEXT WEEK (Green) Ex 17:8-13; 2 Tm 3:14 — 4:4:2; Lk 18:1-8

Ten lepers asked Jesus to take pity on them. But only the Samaritan leper returns to Jesus, glorifies God, and gives thanks. This leper returns to his Healer to further the fledging relationship begun with the healing. For this action he received even more than physical healing. He hears Jesus declares to him, “your faith has saved you.” This is faith: knowing who we are before God, gratefully coming to God, and ever deepening our relationship with God. And for this we always give thanks.

STEWARDSHIP MEANS RETURNING THE FIRST PORTION of all God has given you.
STEWARDSHIP IS:

A way to thank God for blessing you with special gifts. It’s based on your need to give something back to God—not on the Church’s need for money.
A lifelong commitment to follow Jesus, regardless of the cost. Your commitment to God can’t be expressed in any single action.
A rewarding way of life in which your personal relationship with Jesus is enriched and deepened every day.
The key to peace—it makes the world we live in a better place for everyone.
GIVE FROM SUBSTANCE –NOT ABUNDANCE
Give back the first portions of all your God-given gifts. Make sharing a top priority—not something you do with your remaining time and money.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING, and become good STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall, as a reminder to support your church.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
