Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 30, 2012

TODAY (Green) Nm 11:25-29, Jas 5:1-6, Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

NEXT WEEK (Green) Gn 2:18-24, Heb 2:9-11, Mk 10:2-16

What does it mean to be a follower of Christ? It means doing good works “in his name.” It means receiving all others who do good “in His name.” It means cutting off from ourselves any behaviors that keep us or others from living “in his name.” It means, then taking on both Jesus’ single mined focus and his open minded acceptance of all the good works and all the good people who are helping to bring God’s kingdom about.

YEAR OF FAITH
(Weekly Adoration)
The Year of Faith begins on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Each Friday, at St. Ann’s, we will have a Day of Adoration beginning with Holy Mass at 6:30 a.m., and ending with Evening Prayer at 6:30 p.m. Please volunteer one hour so that a group of Intercessors will always be present throughout the day. Sign up lists will be available so that every hour will be taken. The Power of Prayer is essential to combat the problems which have invaded our families, communities and nation. All Leaders of Prayer Groups and Parish Societies are asked to encourage their members to make a faithful commitment of time before the Blessed Sacrament. Please place your name on the signup sheet which is located on the table outside the church. Thank you.

Homelessness impacts our entire community including our healthcare industry, tourism product, and criminal justice system. Data from recent studies has shown that it costs communities more to maintain individuals in homeless than to help them out of it. Our continued and combined efforts through Project Homeless Connect can serve to assist persons who are homeless, towards self-sufficiency. The V.I. Interagency Council on Homelessness is extending an invitation to our church membership to volunteer and assist with registration, to serve as escorts or guides, and to help with the general activities. This year’s PHC will be held at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agriculture Complex on St. Croix, Friday, October 19, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Training will be provided for all volunteers and we kindly request that they attend at least one training session. Please call Ms. Brenda Walwyn at 774-1166 to confirm your participation, or if you have any questions.

R.C.I.A.
A special course of instructions will soon begin for the following people:
1) Those who have never been baptized, and would like to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
2) Those who have been baptized in other churches, and would like to know more about the Catholic Faith.
3) Those who are baptized Catholics, but never received the Sacrament of First Communion and /or Confirmation.
Please call Fr. Simon Peter Opira
at 778-0484 for an appointment.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
