Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 16, 2012

TODAY (Green) Is 50:5-9a, Jas 2:14-18, Mk 8:27-35

NEXT WEEK (Green) Wis 2:12, 17-20, Jas 3:16—4:3, Mk 9:30-37

Peter is so aghast at Jesus’ words about suffering and death that he fails to hear the most important part of Jesus’ words. He fails to grasp that through death Jesus will be raised to new life. Hearing Jesus’ teaching about taking up his cross can leave us aghast, too. But we live on the other side of the resurrection. We know that death brings risen life. The assurance of new life is what gives us the courage to “take up [our] cross, and follow” Jesus.

(Weekly Adoration)
The Year of Faith begins on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Each Friday, at St. Ann’s, we will have a Day of Adoration beginning with Holy Mass at 6:30 a.m., and ending with Evening Prayer at 6:30 p.m. Please volunteer one hour so that a group of Intercessors will always be present throughout the day. Sign up lists will be available so that every hour will be taken. The Power of Prayer is essential to combat the problems which have invaded our families, communities and nation. All Leaders of Prayer Groups and Parish Societies are asked to encourage their members to make a faithful commitment of time before the Blessed Sacrament. Please call the parish secretary, Maria Jones, to schedule your hour or sign your name next to a particular hour on the sheet that will be provided for you during the next few weeks. Thank You.

The Mass is shown on Channel 7-St. Croix, and is also available on the internet for our former parishioners and off island friends on St. Thomas/St. John and throughout the Caribbean—indeed the world.

Some questions to ask yourself
How can I best support my church?
How can I make my contributions go further and do more?
Have I increased my giving as my income has grown?
How can I increase my stewardship of time, talents and possessions?
What blessings have I discovered from giving?
How has my support strengthened my faith?
Reflect on your answers—and let your
FAITH guides your actions. So…your church depends on your support!
Share your gifts with others—as Christ shares with us! Worship God—and pray faithfully. Give generously!
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Mt 6:21.
By giving to the church, you put your resources in God’s hands.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes (available in the Marian Hall) as a weekly reminder to support your church.

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
