TODAY (Green) Wis 9:13-18b; Phlm 9-10, 12-17; Lk 14:25-33

NEXT WEEK (Green) Ex 32:7-11, 13-14; 1 Tim 1:12-17; Lk 15:1-32

Jesus challenges those following him to “calculate the cost” of discipleship. The cost is steep. Discipleship requires both renunciation and calculation. Those who wish to follow Jesus must renounce everyone and everything that gets in the way of a single minded response to Jesus’ invitation to be his disciple. At the same time, disciples are not naively to follow Jesus. They must calculate and consent to the cost—the price is giving their all, even their own life. What the One who calls gives disciples in return, however, is beyond calculation — fullness of new life.

Greetings in the Lord,
During my 38 years as pastor of St. Ann, I have never been in a position where I cannot adequately pay our bills. In fact, your generosity has precluded any serious funding raising except for the Bishop’s Appeal. Well, today I am making a Pastor’s Appeal. I know that the economy is sluggish and some are struggling to make it every week including us. However, due to the lower attendance during the summer, rainy weekends, and the like, it is necessary for me to ask you to increase your offering if it is possible. I have cut back in many areas during the past year, but our health and property insurance, WAPA invoices, diocesan assessments, weekly payroll, and many incidental expenses are very demanding. Please pray about your weekly offering and try to increase it.
God’s choicest blessings on you and on St. Ann’s.
Sincerely in Christ.
Fr. Mike
Msgr. Michael Kosak

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
