Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 2, 2012

TODAY (Green) Dt 4:1-2, 6-8; Jas 1:17-18, 21b- 22, 27; Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

NEXT WEEK (Green) Is 35:4-7a; Jas 2:1-5; Mk 7:31-37

Central to this gospel is the question. Where does the heart lie? Jesus teaches that observance of the Law and tradition is not an end in itself but an indication of where the heart lies. External actions reveal the internal desire to remain faithful to our covenantal relationship with God. Jesus calls us to the true purpose of the Law: a heart centered on God. Jesus calls us back to the true purpose of Law and tradition: conversion of heart.

We seek no “REWARDS” for our stewardship; we do it with the JOY OF SERVING GOD. Yet we know that God does reward stewards by filling their needs in life; by giving new opportunities to care, to share, to participate in the wholeness of life. Stewardship is the responsibility of the Christian life, making our prayers, worship, study of the Scriptures, Christian action truly sincere. Sooo, our whole life is a partnership with God. We cannot “give” anything to God; but we can “fulfill” God by using our gifts wisely and sharing with others. Each of us can live as God’s steward. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you have received.
Tithing becomes easier if we set aside the
Lord’s portion and give it to him. Pray about it!
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes (available in the Marian Hall) as a weekly reminder to support your church.

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
