Nineteenth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
August 12, 2012

TODAY (Green) 1Kgs19:4-8, Eph 4:30—5:2, Jn 6:41-51

NEXT WEEK (Green) Prv 9:1-6, Eph 5:15-20, Jn 6:51-58

The Jews in the gospel think they know Jesus’ origins (“the son of Joseph”) and, therefore, what he is and is not capable of doing. He commands them to “stop murmuring”—to stop limiting what they know. Only by opening themselves to be “taught by God” can they come to see who Jesus really is (“the living bread . . . from heaven”). Only with this deeper knowledge can they receive the greatest gift he offers—himself, the “living bread”.

In view of the present economy and our expenses becoming greater than our income, our 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Ann will no longer be on the radio. The Mass will be shown on Channel 7-St. Croix, but is also available on the internet for our former parishioners and off island friends on St. Thomas/St. John and throughout the Caribbean—indeed the world. Please call the church for the website so that you can tune in and experience our Sunday Mass as well as other special events.
