Eighteenth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
August 5, 2012

TODAY (Green) Ex16:2-4, 12-15; Eph 4:17, 20-24; Jn 6:24-35

NEXT WEEK (Green) 1 Kgs 19:4-8;   Eph 4:30---5:2;  Jn 6:41-51

What is the discussion between Jesus and the crowd really about? The crowd has already been fed bread and is looking for more. However, Jesus challenges them to look at a deeper meaning to which the signs point, to look beyond their immediate needs. How does Jesus do this? He calls them to see the signs as revelation of himself as the “more” for which they look, the “more” that truly satisfies, and the “more” they have already been given. He is “the bread of life.”

BE A STEWARD OF FINANCES:
Jesus has given us instructions on how to handle our finances.
Don’t hoard your resources. Your resources are valuable tools for change, but only if you use them. Read “the Parable of the Rich Fool”—Luke 12:13-21
Use your resources wisely. We’re asked to serve and glorify God with whatever gifts we have received. Read about the 3 stewards in: the Parable of the Talents”—Matthew 25:14-30.
Be content with enough. Learn to distinguish your needs from your wants. Enough of anything is all you need: enough food, enough clothes, and enough money. Read 1 Timothy 6:6-10.
RICHES: Of what use are riches in eternity? St Aloysius Gonzaga
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes (available in the Marian Hall) as a weekly reminder to support your church.
