Wealth isn’t everything! Jesus challenges the crowd to “guard against all greed.” The rich man in the parable judges he has stored up enough possessions to guarantee a good life without worries—so he thinks. Any reliance on wealth and possessions, however, is pure folly—both worldly possessions and this life are fleeting. What truly matters is the inheritance that only God can give: the fullness of eternal life. What “matters to God” is spending our life dispossessing ourselves of anything which hinders us from growing into this fullness of life.

The public phase of our Bishop’s appeal 2013 will conclude this weekend on Pentecost Sunday. As of May 13, the parishes have raised $132,937 or 47% of the parish goal of $285,000.We are grateful to all those who have donated to the Bishop’s Appeal. To make our goal, we need everyone’s participation. For your convenience, you can still make a pledge, and pay it in installments. The Bishop’s Appeal will formally end on December 31, 2013, so that you have ample time to fulfill your pledge. Our Catholic Schools, Catholic Charities and Evangelization efforts need your support. Your gift helps feed the hungry and gives safe shelter to mothers and children in desperate need. Please support the Bishop’s Appeal during this year when we seek to grow in our Catholic Faith, and put it ever more into action!

Jesus has given us instructions on how to handle our finances. Don’t hoard your resources. Your resources are valuable tools for change, but only if you use them. Read “the Parable of the Rich Fool”—Luke 12:13-21.Use your resources wisely. We’re asked to serve and glorify God with whatever gifts we have received. Read about the 3 stewards in: The Parable of the Talents”—Matthew 25:14-30. Be content with enough. Learn to distinguish your needs from your wants. Enough of anything is all you need: enough food, enough clothes, and enough money. Read 1Timothy 6:6-10. Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING, and become good STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall, as a reminder to support your church.

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
