Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 29, 2012

TODAY (Green) 2 Kgs 4:42-44, Eph 4:1-6, Jn 6:1-15

NEXT WEEK (Green) Ex 16:2-4, 2-15; Eph 4:17, 20-24; Jn 6:24-35

When Jesus asks about where to buy food to satisfy the hunger of the large crowd, he is not really thinking about a store and purchases. Jesus knows full well that the “where” of the food will be himself. The super-abundance of food Jesus provides from so little is a sign of the fullness of Life—his very self—Jesus gives. So, too, do we “feed” others by giving of our very selves. Something entirely new is happening here!

BE A STEWARD OF TIME AND TALENT
There is so much work to be done, and there’s no time to waste!
Make a plan: Make specific plans on how to achieve your goals. Use time effectively. Set aside some time each day for personal and family prayer. Use your gifts to help change the lives of others. Develop talents …God-given talents are a wonderful blessing. And, developing your talents can be a source of fulfillment. Rejoice in your talents…God has given you unique gifts. Don’t focus on what you can’t do. Wisdom comes from appreciating your talents—accepting your limitation! Use your talents… giving stewards use their talents to improve other’s lives. Follow Jesus’ example and you are your gifts to reach out to others. For example: Feed the hungry. Care for the children and the elderly. House the homeless.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes (available in the Marian Hall) as a weekly reminder to support your church.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
