Hospitality in its deepest meaning makes possible a personal encounter of the kind that Mary is having with Jesus. This is the “better part” to which Jesus refers. Martha’s generous hospitality is marred by her upbraiding Jesus and complaining to him about Mary. Rather than being truly hospitable, she is “anxious and worried” only about accomplishing a task. Her welcome shifts away from Jesus to herself. The “better part” is to be undividedly present to the person of Jesus. Even when serving.

St. Ann’s Goal-$40,000.00
The public phase of our Bishop’s appeal 2013 will conclude this weekend on Pentecost Sunday. As of May 13, the parishes have raised $132,937 or 47% of the parish goal of $285,000.We are grateful to all those who have donated to the Bishop’s Appeal. To make our goal, we need everyone’s participation. For your convenience, you can still make a pledge, and pay it in installments. The Bishop’s Appeal will formally end on December 31, 2013, so that you have ample time to fulfill your pledge. Our Catholic Schools, Catholic Charities and Evangelization efforts need your support. Your gift helps feed the hungry and gives safe shelter to mothers and children in desperate need. Please support the Bishop’s Appeal during this year when we seek to grow in our Catholic Faith, and put it ever more into action!

From the Mother’s Club
Fellow Parishioners, on Sunday, July 28, we celebrate Our Patronal Feast. There will be an afternoon of Prayer and Praise in the Marian Hall beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by a light reception. As usual, The Mother’s Club seeks your help for donation of 1) cake, 2) fruit punch, 3) water. Please call Clara Xavier (277-9104) or call the Church (778-0484) to list your names and donations. All donations will be collected before the weekend Masses on July 27 - 28. Cash is also welcome. Many thanks!

Are you having trouble balancing your budget in these inflationary times? Does it sometimes occur to you that when one puts God first, one’s money is likely to last longer? Scripture does contain God’s written guarantee that tithers will not be losers. You can find that guarantee in Malachi 3:10. “Bring the whole tithe into the store house, that there may be food in my house, and try me in this, says the Lord of hosts: Shall I not open for you the floodgates of heaven, to pour down blessing upon you without measure?” Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and become good STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall as a reminder to support your church.

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
