Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 15, 2012

TODAY (Green)Am 7:12-15, Eph 1:3-14, Mk 6:7-13

NEXT WEEK (Green) Jer 23:1-6, Eph 2:13-18, Mk 6:30-34

Jesus sends disciples forth with no baggage, no money, not even any food. Instead he provides them with the one essential Resource. He gives them his authority to preach repentance, to cast out demons, to cure the sick. He also gives each other for they are not sent out alone but in partnership “two by two.” The gift of his authority and the gift of one another is essentially the gift of Jesus himself. So gifted, disciples cannot fail.

We bring nothing to the world…and we take nothing out of it. EVERYTHING that we have while we are here comes as a GIFT FROM GOD…. In appreciation, we choose to share a portion of these gifts. The stewardship of our property is an ongoing process. We give regularly and systematically in proportion to the gifts which we are given…the talents which earn us our possessions. Because we love God, we gladly dedicate these gifts to God’s service. Giving money to the church is symbolic act—the offering of ourselves in service and devotion to God. Giving is a practical matter, too, because the offering makes possible for the church to pay bills and carry out its mission in Christ’s name. The Bible says that we should set aside our “first fruits.”—that our offering to God should be the first portion we set aside, not what remains.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes (available in the Marian Hall) as a weekly reminder to support your church.

God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
