Fourth Sunday of Easter

TODAY (White) Acts 2:14a, 36-4; 1 Pt 2:20b-25; Jn 10:1-10

NEXT WEEK (White) Acts 6:1-7; 1 Pt 2:4-9; Jn 14:1-12

Jesus states clearly that He came so that His followers might have abundant Life. Jesus uses the metaphor of a caring shepherd and sheep to indicate how his followers might receive that Life: by hearing his voice and their name, by following the Good Shepherd, by recognizing whose voice calls them. Hearing, following, recognizing: we are to open our ears in faith, open our hearts in trust, open our minds in love. This is the way to abundant Life. The Gate is wide open. Will we enter?

STEWARDSHIP:
Are you having trouble balancing your budget in these inflationary times? Does it sometimes occur to you that when one puts God first, one’s money is likely to last longer? Tithing should not, of course, be undertaken in “what will I get out of it?” mental attitude. The important thing is what God will get out of it: our gratitude for his countless blessings; our proclamation of his dominion over us; more funds for the spread of the Good News of salvation. Tithing becomes easier when we set said the Lord’s portion and give it to him. Pray about it! Your giving is the key to the success of church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and become GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall as a weekly reminder to support your church.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
