Second Sunday of Easter
(Divine Mercy Sunday)
May 1, 2011

TODAY (White)    NEXT WEEK (White)  Acts 2:42-47
Acts 2:14, 22-23 1 Pt 1:3-9  1 Pt:17-21
Jn 20:19-31   Lk 24:13-35

Thomas refuses to believe that Jesus is alive without the physical proof of seeing and touching his wounds. Jesus returns the next week and invites Thomas to see, touch, and believe. We, too, like Thomas, need to encounter the risen Jesus in tangible ways. Jesus offers us this encounter with his risen presence through the “many wonders and signs” the Spirit works within the community of believers. Blessed are we, indeed!

CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP:

God’s chosen people were taught in what spirit they were to make their offerings:
“In generous spirit pay homage to the Lord, be not sparing of freewill gifts. With each contribution show a cheerful countenance, and pay your tithes in a spirit of joy. Give to the Most High as he has given to you, generously, accordingly to your means. For the Lord is the one who always repays, and he will give back to you sevenfold” (Sir 35:7-10). Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS by obtaining Offertory envelopes available in the Marian Hall as a weekly reminder to support your church.

The May issue of The Catholic Islander are available at the doors of the church. Please read them, and pass on the good news to a friend.
