April 6, 2014

TODAY (Violet) Ez 37:12-14, Rom 8:8-11; Jn 11:1-45

NEXT WEEK (Red) Is 50:4-7; Phil 2:6-11, Mk 26:14—27:66

Both Martha and Mary express great conviction in Jesus’ healing power:” Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Their convictions, however, was tied to their human experience of the fragility of sickness and the finality of death. Jesus’ action surmounts human experience and reveals something entirely new: “everyone who lives and believes in Him will never die.” Belief in Jesus unites us from the limits of human experience and frees us for the eternity of risen Life. A LENTEN JOURNEY
The Lenten Journey is a time of Sacrifice throughout the Universal Church. Fast and abstinence are to be observed on GOOD FRIDAY and all Fridays during Lent. All Catholics who have reached their of 18th birthday, and are less than 60 years old are bound to observe the Fast, by which they are limited to a single full meal during the course of the day. All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to observe days of fasting and abstinence during which no meat may be eaten. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Lent is also a season in which prayer, the reception of the sacraments, charity and almsgiving are emphasized.
