Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 27, 2011

TODAY (Green)
1 Cor 4:1-5 Rom 3:21-25, 28; Mt 6:24-34 Mt 7:21-27

NEXT WEEK (Green) Is 49:14-15, Dt 11:18, 26-28, 32

This gospel raises a stark contrast: do we worry excessively about everyday matters such as food, drink, and clothing, etc., or are we attentive to God’s assurance that there is so much more to life than these every day needs? Worrying comes from serving the wrong master and having misguided priorities. The journey from worry to assurance is made by relying on the God who knows what we need and offers us so much more: fullness of life in the kingdom of God.

Please write your names on your envelopes, so that we can update our records. Thank you.

BE A STEWARD OF FINANCES:
Jesus has given us instructions on how to handle our finances. Don’t hoard your resources. Your resources are valuable tools for change, but only if you use them. Read “The Parable of the Rich Fool”—Luke 12:13-21.
Use your resources wisely. We are asked to serve and glorify God with whatever gifts we have received. Read about the 3 stewards in: The Parable of the Talents”—Matthew 25:14-30. Be content with enough.
Learn to distinguish your needs from your wants. Enough of anything is all you need: enough food, enough clothes, enough money. Read 1 Timothy 6:6-10
RICHES: Of what use are riches in eternity? St. Aloysius Gonzaga
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS, by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall as a weekly reminder to support your church.

VIRTUS “SAFE ENVIROMENT” TRAINING
A session for Virtus Training will be held at the Mc Alpin Hall, Holy Cross Church, Christiansted, St. Croix, Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 9:00 am—12 noon.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
