The Presentation of the Lord

February 2, 2014

020214 grahic 1

TODAY (White) Mal 3:1-4; Heb 2:14-18; Lk 2:22-40

NEXT WEEK (Green) Is 58:7-10; 1 Cor 2:1-5: Mt 5:13-16

Simeon and Anna show us that more is necessary than obedience to the law in order to recognize the presence of the Son-Messiah. Filled with expectation, they were actively waiting and looking for “the Christ of the Lord” and the “redemption of Jerusalem.” Their very expectation and waiting was the work of the Holy Spirit within them. As with Simeon and Anna, our own lives must be filled with the expectation and waiting that is truly the work of the Holy Spirit within us. Only then will we see and recognize the messiah in our midst.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

MAKE STEWARDSHIP A WAY OF LIFE
God has given us all we have. God gave you your life, health and property, the earth and the Gospel. Everything is a gift from God. Jesus invites us to be disciples. You are invited to answer Jesus’ call to follow his example of Christian living. Disciples are stewards. Being a disciple means committing your heart and mind—your whole life—to God. Being a good steward is part of discipleship. Being a good steward means being generous with your time, talent and treasure. REMEMBER, tithing becomes easier if we set aside the Lord’s portion and give it to him.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS, by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall, as a weekly reminder to support your church.
