Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

January 26, 2014

012614gr1

TODAY (Green) Is 8:23—9: 3; 1 Cor 1:10-13, 17; Mt 4:12-23

NEXT WEEK (White) Mal 3:1-4; Heb 2:14-18; Lk 2:22-40

To recognize the “kingdom of heaven” in our midst invites us to enter ever more fully into God’s reign by following Jesus. The good news is that the light begins shinning here—among the Gentiles, in the darkness. The call of disciples is to be here—in the darkness. The way out of a dark and condemned land is to hear Jesus’ call to follow him. We cannot hear it often enough, for this is the way to living in the light. This is how God’s kingdom is established: faithful disciples hear Jesus’ call, repent, and faithfully follow.

MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES
God of all goodness, look with love on those who wait for the safe return of their loved ones who serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope we turn to you for comfort. Grant that we may trust in your mercy and send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

STEWARDSHIP …a way of life.
A brother once said … “I was afraid to start tithing, so I took a step in faith as my neighbor encouraged me to do. I have never regretted it. God has not let me down. He has richly blessed our family spiritually and materially. I’m teaching my children to tithe in a spirit of joy and gratitude.”
Tithing becomes easier if we set aside the Lord’s portion and give it to him.
STAND FIRM: In time of desolation one should never make a change, but stand firm in the resolutions and decisions that guided on the day before the desolation.—St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS, by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall, as a weekly reminder to support your church.
