Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

January 23, 2011

TODAY (Green)                  NEXT WEEK (Green)         Is 8:23—9:3       Zep 2:3; 3:12-13

1 Cor 1:10-13, 17                                           1 Cor 1:26-31

Mt 4: 12-23                                                        Mt 5:1-12a

As Jesus begins his public ministry, he issues two commands: “Repent” and “Come after me.” The gospel suggests that both repentance and following Jesus are ways to walk in the Light which reveal the kingdom of heaven at hand. The kingdom of heaven is present in our willing obedience to hear Jesus call, to leave everything, to follow him without counting the cost. The “kingdom of heaven is at hand” when we turn from darkness and not only walk in the light but also become that light ourselves.

MAKE STEWARDSHIP A WAY OF LIFE:

God has given us all we have. God gave you your life, health and property, the earth and the gospel. Everything is a gift from God. Jesus invites us to be disciples. You are invited to answer Jesus’ call to follow his example of Christian living. Disciples are stewards. Being a disciple means committing your heart and mind—your whole life—to God. Being a good steward is part of discipleship. Being a good steward means being generous with your time, talent and treasure. REMEMBER, Tithing becomes easier if we set aside the Lord’s portion and give it to him.

Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS, by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available in the Marian Hall as a weekly reminder to support your church.

Funeral of Michael A. Petersen will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011. Viewing 9:30 a.m.; Service 10:30 a.m. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Offertory Envelopes

Offertory envelopes are available in the Marian Hall. As a family or individual, start praying now as to what your “tithe” will be. How about giving God a raise?
