Baptism of the Lord
January 9, 2011

TODAY (White) NEXT WEEK (Green)

Is 42:1-4, 6-7 Is 49:3, 5-6
Acts 10:34-38 1 Cor 1:1-3
Mt 3:13-17 Jn 1:29-34

There is a tension in the gospel between John and Jesus. Jesus comes to John for baptism; John wants to “prevent him.” Jesus says, “Allow it;” John does what Jesus asks. How often as baptized followers of Jesus do we not experience tension between ourselves and what Jesus is asking us to do? In giving ourselves over to Jesus the tension is resolved, the power to do? In giving ourselves over to Jesus the tension is resolved, the power of the Spirit is unleashed, and the identity of Jesus is revealed to the world.

STEWARD OF TIME AND TALENT:
There’s so much work to be done, and there’s no time to waste!
Make a plan: Make specific plans on how to achieve your goals. Use time effectively. Set aside some time each day for personal and family prayer. Use your gifts to help change the lives of others. Develop talents…God given talents are a wonderful blessing. And, developing your talents can be a source of fulfillment. Rejoice in your talents…God has given you unique gifts. Don’t focus on what you can’t do Wisdom comes from appreciating your talents—and accepting your limitations! Use your talents…giving stewards use their talents to improve others’ lives. Follow Jesus’ example and you’re your gifts to reach out to others. For example: Feed the hungry. Care for children and the elderly. House the homeless.
Your giving is the key to the success of the church plans and programs. To help us meet our obligations, please pray about TITHING and becoming GOOD STEWARDS, by obtaining Offertory Envelopes available e in the Marian Hall as a weekly reminder to support your church.
A special thank you to all who are faithful to their commitment to support their church. May God bless you abundantly?
