Fifth Annual 2014

On behalf of His Excellency, Bishop Herbert A. Bevard, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands and The Very Reverend Monsignor Jerome Feudjio, Rector of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, you are cordially invited to the fifth annual Keys and Sword Award Benefit on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at The Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Hotel and Resort.

The proceeds from this elegant “white tie” affair will benefit the restoration of our 167-year old Mother Church, Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. We are grateful for the continued support from our parishioners, friends of the Diocese and the Virgin Islands business community and it is our pleasure to announce that we are in the final phase of the restoration!

Keys and Sword Story

Bishop Bevard launched this premier event to recognize individuals and friends for their extraordinary contributions and selfless dedication to the Cathedral and the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. This accolade celebrates those among us with attributes of vision and character that rise above the norm through their past and present service to the Church.

The 2014 Keys and Sword Honorees

Bishop Bevard will present the 2014 Keys and Sword Award to Mr. Athneil C. Ottley, President of Ottley Communications and Mr. Jean A. Dragin, President of Jean Dragin Enterprises. Both honorees are long-time supporters of the restoration effort as well as other notable projects for our Diocese.

Mr. Athneil C. Ottley, President of Ottley Communications

Athniel C. (Addie) Ottley was born November 19, 1941, one of eleven children, his father was Post-Master of Charlotte Amalie until his death in 1981.

Addie completed his high-school studies at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School. Following graduation, he enrolled in the RCA Institute of Technology in New York majoring in Electronics and subsequently attended Indiana Institute of Technology majoring in Electronics and Engineering.

Married to the lovely Mary Simmons in December, 1975, Addie says “Mary has been my guiding light ever since that lucky day”.

His commitment as a Catholic and parishioner of the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral has never wavered. He has been actively involved as a staunch supporter of the Cathedral restoration project. Addie not only donated his time and talent, but also philanthrophic support to the Diocese of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands.

Today, Addie is the owner and Manager of WSTA Radio where he is host of “The Morning Show” now in its 43rd year. He is the host of “Face to Face” on WTJX – the local PBS television station. Also, Addie is a former US Virgin Islands Senator, Lieutenant Governor and two-time president of the St. Thomas/St. John Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Jean A. Dragin, President of Jean Dragin Enterprise

In 1965 at the age of 26, Jean came to St. Thomas to visit his aunt and Doctor of Theology, Josette Rey. Thus, began his 48 years of loving dedicated service within the Catholic Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands .
A devout Catholic, Jean Dragin, was born in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe. In 1968, three years after his visit, Jean decided to return to St. Thomas and reside permanently.

It was not long before Jean’s industrious work ethic, loyalty, and vision executed with exceptional skill and talent in engineering, construction and maintenance became well known in the Catholic parishes throughout the Diocese. Additionally, his engineering acumen became well known to the secular Virgin Islands business communities.

Join His Excellency, Bishop Herbert A. Bevard on Saturday, February 1, 2014 as we pay tribute to our brothers in Christ!
